The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Stiff Little Fingers Down Under

I'm always quite fascinated seeing how bands from the UK are received in other lands and I hadn't seen this concert footage before so a big thanks to the appropriately named Boot Leg for filming the show from earlier this year all the way down in Sydney, Australia.

It's great hearing the crowd singing along with every song and the place looked like it was bouncing.

Australia of course has it's own tradition of Punk Rock bands having seen the likes of The Saints and Radio Birdman gain some success in other places than their own. So I guess it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to see a band like SLF embraced so warmly.

A good strong set over almost an hour and half including three from the latest album No Going Back and all those classic singles like Suspect Device, Alternative Ulster, Gotta Getaway, At The Edge, Nobody's Hero, Tin Soldiers Just Fade Away and Silver Lining. Still sound great by the way. I'm going to see them next year at the Barrowlands on St Patrick's Day. Now that will be a real blast!

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: XTC

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series proudly presents the wonderful XTC live in both the United States and in Germany from the 1980s.

I saw them a few times at the tail end of the 1970s and they were always quite fascinating to see live. They were just as quirky on stage as they were in the studio and got better each time I saw them (always a good sign for a band that's going places).

So, the performances are from the USA, their first single release there had been Are You Receiving Me. They wouldn't have a charting single in the US until Generals and Majors (#104 - surprisingly this was their only chart single in America, though their albums fared a little better).

Second up is their performance for Rockpalast (one of the best TV shows for live music that here in the UK was often shown in the very early hours of the morning!).

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: George Thorogood and The Destroyers

The Blues doesn't always come across well when recorded in the Studio, there are of course some exceptions to the rule but The Blues always sounds best played live.

A Double Dose of George Thorogood and The Destroyers will prove that point very clearly here on The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series.

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Go-Go's

Why not indluge in a double bill from New Wave Popsters the Go-Go's. Two shows twenty years apart featuring the classic line-up of the band that appeared on the debut album Beauty and the Beat.

First up Totally Go-Go's that was released on video way back in 1981 (does contain some interview segments). Followed by a performance at Central Park, New York in 2001.

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Elvis Costello

I think it's about time to unleash some Elvis Costello live footage on The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series. I honestly thought I had posted at least one concert of his as part of this series but it seems not.

Let us rectify that with not one but two Elvis Costello shows, the first from 1978 featuring The Attractions. This was filmed in Germany as part of the Rockpalast Series for German TV.

The second is pretty much an acoustic performance from Woodstock 99. It's interesting seeing the difference between the two and how much confidence Costello has mustered over the course of 21 years!

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Good Charlotte

Here's the opening night of the Good Charlotte Reunion Tour in the USA at The Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia back in April 2016.

They had just come back to the States after playing some shows in the UK and Ireland with All Time Low.

It's not exactly a brilliant video and soundwise it could be better but it nicely captures of the atmosphere of a really rocking Good Charlotte show.

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Robyn Hitchcock

Robyn Hitchcock is probably best known for his time with The Soft Boys and for his work with Venus 3 and the many records he released with his band The Egyptians. The two shows below are just him on his own with a guitar.

One is a longer show from a couple of years ago in Austria where he was playing with Gallon Drunk and the second one is a shorter performance filmed during SXSW in 2013 at a Bike Shop of all places.

He's quirky, funny and most of all he writes some spectacular songs.

Enjoy

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Johnny Cash

A bit of a Johnny Cash double header, first up the show from 1994 at The Manhattan Center and then because Glastonbury is coming up at the weekend I thought it would be cool to post his Glastonbury set from 1994. It's a bit of a similar set to The Manhattan Center but I thought seeing him in a setting with such a huge crowd was such a cool thing, and I think this was the first time he had ever played at the Festival as well. It was also good as well to see that his music though rooted in Country and America really transcended that and appealed to a much wider audience.

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series: Siouxsie and the Banshees

The Soundtrack4Life Concert Series today spotlights The Seven Year Itch concert by Siouxsie and the Banshees at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in 2002. It had been seven years since the Banshees had played together.

After their 1995 album The Rapture (their 11th Studio Album) Polydor Records sensationally dropped the band from the label. A tour followed which was to be the last (well at least for the time being). After 20 years Siouxsie and the Banshees were no more as they broke up in 1996. Siouxsie and Budgie had decided to continue work as The Creatures and would release a further two albums together.

Such a reunion you would have expected a setlist that featured all their chart hits from over the course of their successful career, think again though, because Siouxsie and the Banshees were going to to play the songs they wanted to play and not neccesarily what everyone wanted to hear. What you got was B-Sides and obscure album tracks and only a few A-Sides. There was no Hong Kong Garden, no Love In A Void, and no Dear Prudence. The only singles played were Happy House, Christine, Cities in Dust, Spellbound and Peek-a-Boo.
