The Civil Wars Split?
Well, this came right out of the blue!
"We
sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is
something we deeply regret. However, due to internal discord and
irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a
touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your
amazing love & support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for
you in 2013. - Joy Williams & John Paul White.
PS
- We understand that there are many of you stuck with service charges
and travel reservations due to our abrupt cancelations. Please email us
at info@thecivilwars.com if there are costs incurred that you would like
to be reimbursed for, include a scan or attachment to your receipt(s)
of the costs, and we will do our best to reimburse you for
non-refundable charges."
This was posted last night at 22.38 not long after they had performed at The Roundhouse in London. It's left more than a few people slightly confused as you could imagine. I mean in one breath they are saying, "due to internal discord and
irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a
touring entity" and then they are saying in another breath, "Our sincere hope is to have new music for
you in 2013." So does that mean that they will just be a studio band or does the partnership of Joy Williams and John Paul White have no future at all?
The "internal discord and
irreconcilable differences of ambition" - is that between the two members or is that something else altogether? Reports have suggested that they were not communicating with each other on stage and there was none of the starring into each each others eyes as they sang like there was back earlier in the year when they were here!
Others are wondering if it's a political thing. That I think we will never know.
Whatever the case, it is sad news to report of a band who's debut album I really enjoyed.
