The "Sweet" Sound of Candy Hearts

It's always nice discovering something new and recently New York/New Jersey band Candy Hearts have found their way onto my musical radar.

I stumbled on their latest video, 'I Miss You', a track that's taken from their brand new album 'All The Ways You Let Me Down', and immediately fell for their infectious indie pop punk sound.

Of course I had to find out a bit more about them and so the search began. Click on the links to enjoy the music.

Formed whilst still at College in Upstate New York by frontwoman Mariel Loveland in 2010, 'Ripped Up Jeans and Silly Dreams' was the first album from the band and was a self-release.

A Split single with Sister Kisser followed in June 2011 and the band contributed two songs to it.

Their 2nd album release was on Kind of Like Records and was out in September 2011.

November 2012 saw the release of 'The Best Ways To Disappear' (a mini album of 6 tracks). The album came out on Bridge Nine Imprint Violently Happy Records (founded by Chad Gilbert, Guitarist of New Found Glory and this was the first release).

'Miles and Interstates' Single was released in August 2013. It was a Limited Edition of 500 copies.

And on June 10th they released their brand new album.

Rewind: 17th June 2012 - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Play Madrid on the Wrecking Ball Tour

This was the 34th show on the Wrecking Ball Tour in 2012 and up to this date it was the longest show the band had ever played - a massive 3hrs and 48mins. The previous longest show was back on The River Tour in 1980, Nassau Coliseum on the 31st December when the band played for 3hrs and 43mins. The elusive 4hr Springsteen show would materialize on the final night of the European leg of the tour when they played in Helsinki  for a remarkable 4hrs and 6mins (add a Preshow appearence and all in all it was around 4hrs and 37mins!).

Rewind: 1979 - Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division Released

Released on 15th June 1979, 'Uknown Pleasures', the debut album from Manchester band Joy Division (formerly Warsaw) was a #1 Album on The Indie Chart but only reached #71 in the proper UK Album Charts. But the sales were slow until the release in October of the non-album single 'Transmission'.

Recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport in April 1979 and was produced by Martin Hannett.

The album is still considered by many as one of the finest albums of it's time.

The Boys - Doing What They Do Best!

The Boys have returned with a bang!

The band that bought you such 1970's punk rock gems like 'Sick on You', 'I Don't Care', 'First Time' and 'Brickfield Nights', and classics like 'Terminal Love' and 'Kamikaze', have finally released a brand new album! We've only been waiting since 1981!Their last album was 'Boys Only'.

A round of applause for The Boys!

The old guard of Matt Dangerfield, Casino Steel and Honest John Plain have penned 13 new slices of their perfect brand of Punk Pop and you'd think they'd never been away! Well, in the years between releases they have all been involved in various musical projects so it's not like they have been sitting on their bottoms doing nothing, so I guess we can forgive them for taking so long.

Stand out tracks so far for me are: '1976', 'She's the Reason', 'Punk Rock Girl', 'Organ Grinder' and 'What's the Matter With Morris?'

I love hearing the great harmonies again that made all their previous records so good and it makes you wonder why these guys only ever had limited success back in the day.

All in all it's a great return and one can only hope that it gets the attention it fully deserves. There's quite a number of songs that would sound mighty fine on the radio.

If you Click Here there are links to a teaser from the album and also for getting the album for yourselves.

Birthday Greetings
 to
Richard Butler
(born on this day in 1956).

29th May 1979 at The Music Machine in Camden was the first time I set eyes upon The Psychedelic Furs and they were like this kind of cross between The Velvet Underground and Roxy Music! Was so amazed by them I went to see them a couple more times in '79 and then saw them support Echo and the Bunnymen at The Lyceum a month after their debut album came out. In June they were back at The Music Machine in Camden and were even more polished.

The 1979 debut single is epic and like a lot of singles back then, the b-side was none too shabby either.

The single did not chart in the UK and it hit #77 on the US Dance Chart!

Their debut album is one of my all-time favourite albums. The tracklisting below is for the 9 track original UK release. For some reason 'Blacks'Radio' was removed from the US release and 'Susan's Strange' and 'Soap Commercial' replaced it.

The album reached #18 in the UK Chart and only #140 in the US Chart.

Produced by Steve Lilywhite (except where noted)

Side one
  1. "India" – 6:21
  2. "Sister Europe" – 5:38
  3. "Imitation of Christ" – 5:28
  4. "Fall" – 2:40
  5. "Pulse" – 2:37 (produced by Howard Thompson, Ian Taylor and The Psychedelic Furs)
Side two
  1. "We Love You" – 3:26 (produced by Howard Thompson, Ian Taylor and The Psychedelic Furs)
  2. "Wedding Song" – 4:19
  3. "Blacks/Radio" – 6:56
  4. "Flowers" – 4:10 (produced by Howard Thompson, Ian Taylor and The Psychedelic Furs)

To coincide with the release of the debut album'Sister Europe' was released as a single. It didn't chart in the UK or the US but did break the Top 50 in New Zealand!
