Rewind: 1973 CBGB & OMFUG Club Opens in The Bowery, New York

On this day in 1973, The CBGB OMFUG Club (Country, BlueGrass, and Blues & Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers), opened in the lower eastside of New York City. Founded by Hilly Kristal, it was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles, but became a forum for American punk and New Wave bands such as Blondie, Talking Heads, Television, Patti Smith, The Dead Boys and the Ramones.
