Let The Day Begin...Let The Day Start!: Day 74 - The Shangri-Las

As today is the anniversary of the passing of Mary Ann Ganser I thought I'd turn the spotlight upon one of the greatest Girl groups of the sixties - The Shangri-Las.

I won't go too much into their history because there's a brilliant Website dedicated to them that's worth checking out and you can read their history on there under the Bio section. There's a number of links throughout this post where you can get more information about the group, don't forget to give 'em a click.

The group were two sets of sisters and although there were four of them at different points throughout their recording and touring career there were sometimes only three of them. The constant one was Mary Weiss.

The video below basically contains everything they released in their brief time together.

Their influence extended to bands and artists like New York Dolls, The Ramones, Bruce Springsteen, Jesus and Mary Chain, Amy Winehouse, Johnny Thunders solo career (and his band The Heartbreakers), Aerosmith, The Shop Assistants, Neko Case, The Horrors, The Slits and Sonic Youth to name but a few.

Mary Weiss still performs  (though it's been awhile I think since she's done any live shows). She released a brilliant solo album back in 2007 called Dangerous Game, here's the title track.
