Second album from New Order was pretty much well received by one an all on its release and still stands today as one of the great albums from the Manchester band.
As was the norm with the band they released a single prior to the album release only for the single not to be featured on the album (a US CD release of it did include it though). That single was Blue Monday. It was finally included on the 2008 Collector's Edition of the album alongside the singles Confusion, Thieves Like Us and Murder.
New Order have always been one of those bands that have often disappointed me when I've seen them live, I think I can safely say I've only seen them once where I thought they were just absolutely stunning, the other times I don't know if I caught them on a bad day because if memory serves me right here they were not really on their game at all. So stumbling upon this yesterday I approached with caution and was quite taken aback by just how good it all sounded. Playing classic New Order tunes and three songs from the new album Music Complete and features Elly Jackson of La Roux on Tutti Frutti and People On The High Land.

I rarely do posts spotlighting Greatest Hits/Best Of Packages but this one today by New Order really stands out to me. I posted a few days back about their new album Music Complete and I sometimes forget how many great singles they have released over time. Today's Rewind takes us back to 2005 and the release of Singles. It's a compilation of their releases between 1981-2005. Unlike Substance (which spotlighted the 12" releases and B-Sides and I have also included the album further down the page) Singles spotlights the 7" releases by the band and doesn't include B-Sides, some of these being quite rare as well as differing from album versions.
Of special note are several early singles that have never appeared on CD in their original form: "Ceremony", "Everything's Gone Green" and "Temptation". Additionally, "Confusion" appears in an edit of the song's "Rough mix" created exclusively for this compilation. One song, "Turn" was released on this album in a new edited form, despite never being a single. Released at the very height of the loudness war prevalent in the record industry, this release is notorious amongst New Order aficionados for its high volume and heavy compression levels.

Music Complete is the tenth studio album by the English rock band New Order. It was released on 25 September 2015 by Mute Records, their first album on the label. The album features guest vocals from Elly Jackson of La Roux (on Tutti Frutti and People On The High Line), Iggy Pop (on Stray Dog) and Brandon Flowers (on Superheated). Music Complete was released on CD, digital download, vinyl and limited-edition clear vinyl. An 8×LP deluxe vinyl box set that was released also features the album as well as extended versions of all eleven tracks. The cover artwork for the LP (including the limited-edition clear vinyl release), CD, download, as well as the 8×LP deluxe edition will differ based on color schemes. The deluxe LP box set will be released on 20 November 2015. On 29 July, "Restless" was released as the album's lead single. On 16 September, "Plastic" was released as the second single. It's the first New Order without Peter Hook (who since his departure has not been so gracious to his former bandmates), and so on bass this is the debut for Tom Chapman and he does a pretty good job if I may say so. It's also the return of Gillian Gilbert (she last appeared with the band in 2001 on Get Ready).
Having had the opportunity to play it a few times over the weekend I'm pretty impressed with it. Tracks I'm impressed with thus far: Restless, People On The High Line, Stray Dog, Academic and Unlearn This Hatred.
Barry Walters of Rolling Stone wrote: "Just as Curtis' suicide inspired his bandmates to reinvent themselves as New Order in 1980, Hook's departure frees them to create their most varied and substantial work in decades." - I would add a thumbs up for that comment because he's totally spot on.
Between November of 1985 and September of 1986 New Order released a series of singles all beginning with the Letter S. I don't think there was anything cryptic behind it but what a great bunch of singles beginning in '85 with Sub-culture. Following that in March of '86 is possibly my favourite New Order release, Shellshock. And then in September came this cracker:
