Stiff Little Fingers - No Going Back (2014)

Stiff Little Fingers Current Line Up
  • Jake Burns – Vocals, guitar
  • Ian McCallum – guitar, Vocals
  • Ali McMordie – bass guitar, Vocals
  • Steve Grantley – drums, Vocals

Finally, after a very long wait, Stiff Little Fingers are set to release their first album since 'Guitar and Drum' (2003). First promised back in 2007 but through circumstances not of all their own making the band finally entered the studio in January this year and laid down a stack of tracks including three which they have been playing the last couple of years ('My Dark Places', 'Trail of Tears' and 'Full Steam Backwards').

I have to say that I think it's one of their best in ages (yes I know they haven't made one for more than a decade!). Jake proves that he is still willing to stand up against injustice even as he gets older - check out 'Trail of Tears' and 'Full Steam Backwards' especially.

'My Dark Places' is probably one of the most personal songs I think they have ever recorded. It's all about coming through depression and it's amazing what a spotlight upon the heart of the many who have gone through this themselves it is. One of Jake's finest songs to date and one that many will be glad he wrote following a severe bout of depression himself.

I don't say this about many albums but it's not been off the playlist since I got the download whilst we await the physical copy being sent. With every play of it I'm blown away.

The album release is 20th March with an album release party at the Queens Hall, Nuneaton where the album will be played and the band will perform some songs from it.

SLF are currently on tour with The Godfathers as support (wow! What a night you are in for if you make it to a show!) and you can find tour dates and other information at their website.

The album has been made via Pledge Music meaning that the album is funded by fans and apparently within hours of the notice going up they achieved their target and have gone way beyond that target. You have still got time to pre-order the album over at that link and hook up with one of the many pledge exclusive offers.
