Soundtrack4Life: the B-Sides

I still believe in the saints In Jerry Lee and Johnny, and all the greats
I still believe in the sound That has the power to raise a temple, and tear it down
I still believe in the need For guitars and drums and desperate poetry
I still believe that everyone Can find a song for every time they’ve lost, and every time they’ve won
So just remember folks we’re not just saving lives, we’re saving souls and we’re having fun. (Frank Turner - 'I Still Believe')

Preparation for Punk Week on The Hack

This weekend on my favourite Forum is the start of Punk Week and I'm looking forward to "digging up the bones of Strummer and Jones" (to quote 'London's Brilliant' by Wendy James). A lot of people forget that amid the whole Punk movement there was some real quality music released both here in the UK and in the USA (not forgetting France as well). People always assume that the bands could not play and that their lyrics never made sense and that basically that punks were good for nothing. I've always thought that was quite a harsh assessment and hopefully other the week we will see that quite the opposite is true.

Here's a few of my favourite tracks from way back when:
Subway Sect - Nobody's Scared

Metal Urbain - Hysterie Connective

The Jam - All Around the World

Magazine - Shot By Both Sides

Buzzcocks - What Do I Get?
