"Sometimes there's a song in my brain/
And I feel that my heart knows the refrain/
I guess it's just the music that brings on nostalgia
For an age yet to come" - Pete Shelley (Nostalgia - Buzzcocks)

I really have no idea how on earth The Civil Wars managed to put together this second album when you consider that last year they were in the middle of a European tour and hours after playing The Roundhouse (watch Poison and Wine here) in London they posted a message on their facebook page that said the tour was being cancelled due to "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition."
Joy Williams recently spoke to the Associated Press and she said, "John Paul and I aren't speaking right now but to me that doesn't
determine the outcome of the band because if we're not speaking we can't
determine the outcome of the band at this moment," she says. "So the
other elephant in the room is what's happening with the band? The
reality is I'm not even quite sure."
After the hiatus began, Producer Charlie Peacock became something of a musical go-between and White has not spoken publicly about the album.
"John Paul does not want to talk, but he is very proud of the
record," Peacock said. "John Paul is a serious artist. I can guarantee
you that this record would not be coming out if he were not proud of
Born on this day in 1957 Christopher John Millar (aka Rat Scabies), drummer for Tor, London SS, The Damned, The White Cats, The Damned (again!), The Germans and has played with many other artists. He is currently occupying the drum stool for The Members (2014 note: Rat is no longer playing for The Members).
Not of this Earth - 1995 (Full Album). This was the last album that Rat appeared on as Drummer of The Damned (though it's often disputed as to wether this is an actual release by the band as Scabies got an earful from Vanian and Sensible for apparently getting it released without proper authorization).
Born on this day in 1936 in Lettsworth, Louisianna, the Blues Legend Buddy Guy. Today he is 77 years old! And he's still making music having his 69th album called 'Rhythm and Blues' on RCA Records this year!
The Wrecking Ball Tour in Europe came to an end Sunday evening in Kilkenny, Ireland. Rumours abounded just what was going to happen on this special night. Three tour premieres and 'Born to Run' front to back, and a three hour and 19 minute set.
For the first time on the tour there was no 'Waiting on a Sunny Day' but that did stop Bruce from pulling a kid up on stage with him to dance on 'Dancing in the Dark'. That kid is going to go home a happy chap as at the end of the song Bruce presented him with his guitar!
First show at the brand new Leeds Arena (we won't give it it's daft corporate name - no free advertising here!). Three hours and six minutes and a very strong 29 song set including four tour premieres - 'Local Hero', 'Gotta Get That Feeling' and 'Bad Moon Rising' and 'Secret Garden'. Only two more shows to go on the tour with the coming weekend performances in Kilkenny, Ireland (oh and Rio and Chile later in the year) and one wonders what goodies are going to be unleashed there!
Three and a half hour set in Cardiff last night - 33 song set that included the first ever live performance of 'Born in the USA' outtake 'TV Movie'. More Links will be added and hopefully better quality ones as they become available.
In 1985 she also signed to Rounder Records and would release her debut album,'Too Late To Cry' in 1987. Listen to 'Foolish Heart' Here. Union Station were her back-up band. Her first band, 'Two Highways' album with Union Station credited on the cover followed in 1989. The album earned them their first of many Grammy Nominations (41 up until 2012) for Best Bluegrass Recording despite not charting.
Apparently the deal with Rounder Records meant that she would alternate between solo album and band album and so her 1990 release, 'I've Got That Old Feeling' finally broke the charts and stalled at #61. The title track was also the first song that she ever filmed a video for. She also received the first of her 27 Grammy's as the album was nominated and won Best Bluegrass Recording.
Released in 1992, 'Everytime You Say Goodbye' would bring another Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album of the Year. A year later Alison would become the youngest member at the time of The Grand Ole Opry and the first Bluegrass artist for almost three decades to join the cast. 1994 saw her collaborate with The Cox Family on with the album 'I Know Who Holds Tomorrow', and yet another Grammy came her way.
'So Long So Wrong' would also win a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album, though some critics thought it was quite "Untraditional". Two other tracks from the album would win a Grammy, 'Looking in the Eyes of Love' (Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal) and 'Little Liza Jane' (Best Country Instrumental Performance).
2001 saw the release of the ninth studio album by Alison Krauss and Union Station. Jerry Douglas had joined the band full time after the departure of Adam Steffy in 1998. Douglas had played in the studio with band sice 1987.
'New Favourite' would win a Grammy for Best Bluegrass album and 'The Lucky One' would win two Grammy Awards (Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Country Song).
A live CD/DVD would follow in 2002 filmed at Louisville Palace over two nights in April the same year. The show saw them at their best performing a wide range of music from previous releases.
Another collection was released in 2007 that contained Duets with the likes of Sting, Brad Paisley, James Taylor and a cracking single alongside John Waite of 'Missing You'.
2007 also so one of the most bizzarest collaborations that Alison Krauss has ever been involved with, a team-up with Robert Plant! I can remember thinking when I first heard about this project that there was no way on earth it was ever going to work. After hearing 'Raising Sand' for the first time I had to eat my own words!
A pretty amazing set list in Belfast last night with 5 songs in total from the 'Nebraska' album (including the title track which had only ever been performed live 5 times prior to this show). 5 tracks
from 'The River', 4 from 'Born to Run', 4 from 'Born in the USA', 2
from 'Darkness at the Edge of Town', 2 from 'The Rising', 5 from
'Wrecking Ball'. Click on the Links to watch the performances. Will check back later and add more links and better quality ones when they become available.
